WORLD’S SCARIEST BRIDGES

As we all know, bridges provide safe passages for people and vehicles over bodies of water, valleys, and roads for hundreds of years. However safe they might be, it’s always a little exhilarating to cross them. Safety aside, we found the world’s most terrifying bridges. For the worry warts and people afraid of heights, this might be as close as you get to one of these bridges. For the adrenaline junkies, this just might become your next bucket list.

The Vine Bridges of Iya Valley

This valley in Japan is famous for the several bridges made completely out of vine. These bridges have been around for hundreds of years but have since been reinforced with steel cables and new wood to preserve it. Nevertheless, crossing this bridge is no relaxing matter. Every step you take comes with the dreaded swinging sensation.

Deosai Bridge

Located in Pakistan, this bridge covers gravel, asphalt and rivers. It is made completely out of wood and runs at an average altitude of 13,500ft above sea level! Yikes!

Bamboo Bridge

This tiny bridge is the only thing that connects the city Kampong Chong in Cambodia with a nearby island. The thing is, the bridge is only useful during the dry months. When the wet season comes, everyone who lives on the island has to rely on boats.

Eshima Ohashi Bridge

Bridge? More like rollercoaster. This bridge in western Japan connects the city of Matsue to Sakaiminato.

Sunshine Skyway Bridge

This bridge in Florida is said to be the longest cable stayed bridge in the world. While it may not be too scary, it is spooky. Over 207 people have committed suicide from the middle since it’s reconstruction in 1987.

Shiniuzhai Bridge

The Suspension Glass Bridge in Shiniuzhui National Geological Park, China is not for anyone who suffers from vertigo. The floor is made out of glass and you can see all 590 ft below you. The bridge stretch 984 ft and was only opened in Sept. 2015.

Titlis Cliff Walk

The builders of this bridge claim that to cross it, you need “nerves as strong as the steel cables from which it hangs.” Of course the bridge is completely safe, but still suspends 1,500ft above a glacier in the Swiss Alps. Stomach churning to say the least.

Gandy Bridge Florida

This bridge, aka the Friendship Trail Bridge connects Tampa to Clearwater Beach in Florida. It is so low and close to the sea that drivers are often wary of driving through water during flooding season.

The Millau Viaduct

This bridge is an architects dream and an acrophobe’s nightmare. It boasts as the longest and highest combination bridge in the world, which means there are higher and longer bridges, independently, but no bridge surpasses its size when combined.

Vitim River Bridge

This bridge is an old train bridge that crosses the Vitim (more like victim) river in Siberia. Your nerves are truly tested in the winter when the ice has frozen over and there is absolutely no traction. Surviving this bridge crossing considered such an accomplishment, that the 34 people who have created a their own Facebook page.

Quepos Bridge

This bridge’s nickname is literally “The Bridge of Death.” NEED WE SAY MORE????? It’s located in Costa Rica and is extremely narrow, allowing only one way traffic at a time.
